Add support for the temperature alarm peripheral found inside
Qualcomm plug-and-play (QPNP) PMIC chips. The temperature alarm
peripheral outputs a pulse on an interrupt line whenever the
thermal over temperature stage value changes. Implement an ISR
to manage this interrupt.

Register a thermal zone device in sysfs with mulitple trip points
corresponding to the physical threshold temperatures between over
temperature stages. The temperature reported by this thermal
zone device should reflect the actual PMIC die temperature if an
ADC is present on the given PMIC. If no ADC is present, then the
reported temperature should be estimated from the over
temperature stage value.

Send a notification to userspace via sysfs_notify() whenever the
over temperature stage value changes.

Hey Ivan,

Please give us at least a two weeks time frame before resending your
patches.

This is a driver specific property and must be properly named as such.
Please read the the DT documentation.

More specifically, we already have standardized and discussed way of
describing thermal zones in DT, including their names. Please read
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/thermal/thermal.txt

SPMI address _of_ the temperature alarm device?

Maybe can be rephrased better such as:
- io-channel-names: should contain "thermal" for the temperature reading ADC channel

Maybe describe the trip points in the DT?

Seems to depend on IIO too.

I believe that it is standard property. Section 6.1.2.3 label. I could
drop this property. Node name should be enough descriptive, already.

Yes, it is Linux Foundation. Downstream driver on this which driver is
based is also Linux Foundation copyrighted.

This driver monitor temperature of the external PMIC chip, accessed over
SPMI bus. I am not aware of way how to cool this chip.

I am not sure. Trip points are not arbitrary selectable. Hardware
have 4 predefined operating modes, if I could say.

0 = {105 C, 125 C, 145 C}
1 = {110 C, 130 C, 150 C}
2 = {115 C, 135 C, 155 C}
3 = {120 C, 140 C, 160 C}

Everything which driver could select is one of 0...3.

Rest of the comments will be fixed in next version.

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Eduardo,

Should I wait for more comments or I can post updated
version of this patch?

Please, if you have a new version, I would prefer you send it as V2. I
am specially interested about the cooling parts of it, and the DT usage.

Thanks for sharing your driver.

I really don't know what to say about cooling, there is no cooling.
It is supposed that system just shut down, in case of overheat,
I believe.
