If it was copied = length - copy_mc_to_kernel(daddr, saddr, length); if (copied < length) ret = -EIO; then it would be clear. Clearer, methinks: if (copy_mc_to_kernel(daddr, saddr, length) == 0) ret = length; else ret = -EIO;
