Why is it necessary to check cmd_len as well?  It's not wrong, it just
doesn't seem to be useful

This is what you need as well:


The reason it works is that function calls are an absolute barrier, so
setting the cmnd to NULL is seen everywhere before the mempool_free()
starts and the execution path of mempool_free() is much longer
than _scsi_format_command() so you can never get a use after free in
practice.  To make this completely bullet proof, scsi_show_rq() should
take a copy of the cmnd pointer before testing and using it, otherwise
there's a minute window where it could go to NULL between the check and
__scsi_format_command().  I've forgotten if we can rely on no-
preemption for RT or we need to add it explicitly, but I'm sure you can
figure it out.

If cmd->cmd_len is 0, the 'buf' won't be initialized by __scsi_format_command().

Yeah, that is true, but still can't avoid use-after-free since preemption
or interrupt may change the timing a lot. Especially sd_uninit_command()
is run in interrupt context.

If we set SCpnt->cmnd as NULL earlier, we may miss the command data with
more possibility, that seems what we want to avoid too from debug function
view.
